THE COZY COATS PROGRAM
The Cozy Coats for Kids program of CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center was started in 1990 by a couple of nurses who saw there was a need for low-income children during the cold winter months of Santa Fe. They were able to purchase 6 coats that year, but because of the response by the community, the number of coats purchased & donated has increased every year, thanks to the generous donations of the Hospital employees.
On its 27th year, the program is now successfully run by the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary. This year’s goal was to collect 1,020 new coats for the low income and reduced-lunch children representing 21 Santa Fe Public schools. We were able to surpass that goal, collecting 1,400 coats! Cozy Coats not only warms the children of Santa Fe, but also the hearts of all the wonderful employees and volunteers that participate in the program every year.
